MP3 - still the most versatile lossy compressed audio format?

Well, I knew the first part, the second is new information to me but kinda anal considering most people call it OGG format anyway.

JPEG is the best photo compression format available. MP3 is being slowly replaced.

Ah yes sorry, I did mean to say "nothing to do with lossy". Thanx for the correction.

kinda anal considering most people call it OGG format anyway.

OGG is an open source container format which can hold audio, video, and other metadata. It being popular with Vorbis encoded files is not relevant. FLAC is also being used within the OGG container, thus one can see the importance of knowing the only correct description of the OGG container's utility.

MP3 is by far the worst but it is so old that everything in the world supports it.

Not many mp3 players support other formats. The PlayForSure ones support WMA which is nice but the iPod does not. More players need to support AAC.
