I'm using Goldwave to re-encode my audible-format audio books to mp3. What would be the optimal size/quality to use on these?

Was using 48khz, 64kbps mono, but I'm thinking even that's overkill for a strictly voice recordings. Anyone have any recommendations? Audible format is so rediculously compressed anyway, the originals can't be that high quality (Converted a 14mb Auidble file to MP3 using the above settings and it ended up being 70mb...). Regularly I'd use vbr, not cbr, but I can't seem to do that in Goldwave.

I use stereo 64kbps.
I guess I could use mono 16kbps or whatever, but why bother if you have 20gig ipod?

i usually burn them to cd and then rip it with wmp9 or an mp3 ripper like dBpower AMP. Then rename the files... come to think of it there has to be a better way.

I'm tempted to just get an ipod and join the masses.
