I am unsure about the benefits of a flash player as opposed to a HD player, are they worth the money?
Also does anyone know which is the best flash player and which is the best HD player?

Flash players are good for on the go type of things. Your best bet would be with either a 512 MB Flash player or a 256MB flash player, as those are geared perfectly for people who don't generally listen to their whole collection of music.

HD players are for the people who like to bring their whole musical collection with them, and generally don't mind the builkiness of hte HD player.

I prefer flash, because I only listen to a few songs. Currently, there is no "best " flash for HD player, although the Ipods are pretty popular...

depends on your budget and needs.

if you need something less than 1 gig, i think those sensa's or even the rio forge that has expandable SD slots are nice.
if you need more than 1 gig, the ipod nano is the best flash-based player, bar none.

i think the biggest flash player is the 4gig ipod nano. correct me if im wrong

as for the best HD-based player, if you need less than 20 gigs, the creative zen micro are cheap.
if you want more than or 20 gigs, there are many to choose from: ipod is fool-proof, iriver sounds the best according to other people (and have custom EQ), and creative... i don't like creative that much.

flash-based players:
pro- light weight, long battery life, some lets you use AAA, and shock-proof
con- smaller memory size, not many are rechargable, cheaper ones are not very customizable, smaller display

HD-based:
pro- large storage size, most are rechargable, 4-6 gig HD-based players are cheaper than its flash-based counterparts, larger, some color display
con- large physical size, does not let you use AA/AAA. not shock-proof

that pretty much sums it up.

If I was going to get a flash player I think I'd go with the 4GB iPod nano but I'm not sure whether they're really worth the money seeing as they cost £180 and a 30gb hd video iPod costs £210.

bad mistake. After 4-6 weeks of use that screen will no longer be readable. It will be a fuzzy haze of scratches. I scratched on just puting it in my cotton shirt pocket. Unless you are a jogger or athlete then I would get a HDD based player.

Just gonna chime in here with my 2c.

I have this

I love it so far. It has the best sound that I have heard out of a mp3 player and it has a removable rechargable battery. Its a HD based one with 20GB of space.

I like HD mp3 players becuase they hold a lot more, and really I love to have my entire music collection at my finger tips at all times. If you want to goto the gym with it tho..no can do.

Mp3 players are generally smaller since they're flash
and more durable and you can bounce them around and wont get destroyed

HD
Delicate
Dont drop it or you just wasted a sh1t load of money

I have found CNET is a good place for general advice on consumer electronics.
That model earned the Cnet editors choice award.

Just noticed it says: The bottom line:
If you want a slick alternative to the iPod and you're into Sony's Connect music store, then the NW-HD5 is a stellar choice.

What is Sony's connect music store? Does that mean I can only play stuff I buy from them?

Using it on the bus etc wouldn't screw it up though right?
