MP3 Players: Volume and Battery consumption

What is best for battery longevity:

MP3 with low volume played with player's volume on high?

or

MP3 with high volume played with player's volume on low?

Or are they about the same?

Thanks, Oyeve initially I reduced the volume on all my mp3s to eliminate clipping, but my batterlife was not so good, ive decided to do the reverse and I dont even hear any clipping, and i think the battery life is better.
