I have been checking out all the new Mp3 players and they do not fit my needs...

I want

FM tuner
GOOD skip protection (jogging and cycling)
small size perferred
GOOD SOFTWARE or compatible with other good sofware out there

Hardrive based units are out, and the samsung 700H is plaggued with horrendouns software and a small screen..

So should I bite the bullet and go MD?

if so...recommendation..not more than$200'

Thanks

I haven't seen too many MD players with FM Radio, I've only seen one by sony but the FM Tuner was built into the remote. Lemme look up some models.

uh well I can't really suggest anything but I have a riovolt SP100 mp3 player and a Sharp MD player and I mainly use my sharp player, because of size, convience, and audio quality. mostly cuz of size though, and when I pull it out teachers dont know what the hell it is so they can't take it :) They can take my headphones though :( That's just me though

And in addition to that, I haven't seen any NetMD models with FM Radio so you'll have to live with realtime recording. If you're willing to drop the FM tuner, there are a lot more choices opened up to you though. Just my thoughts....

Nomad II MG isn't available yet in the US, maybe you can find one on Ebay but wouldn't risk it cuz that thing is rather expensive... You should check out the 128MB Nomad IIc that thing is pretty nice, firmware upgradeable, backlit lcd, FM radio, uses smart media cards

What is the min. number of songs you plan to store? Is FM Tuner required?

As others have mentioned, an MD player with FM tuner is rare. I can't even think of one right now. One of my friends have a Bantam MP3 Player. It's tiny and has a nice hi-res screen. It has internal rechargable lithium-ion and recharges through usb port. hmm.. Apparently they have a model that has FM radio. Check it out. www.bantamusa.com

I hear a lot of good things from the NetMD players. I would go for the Net MD MZ-N707 model instead of the 505, the 707 has a better remote.

Been looking through the MD Players and I haven't seen any MD Players with FM Tuner, I haven't seen one with FM Tuner for quite awhile. You can check Mini Disco or Mini Disc Mall for the latest MD Players.

NetMD sucks ass for MP3s period.

First of all...it won't hold MP3s. It only holds ATRAC-compressed audio (the software converts your MP3 to proprietary format when storing on the minidisc player.)

Second...ATRAC format sucks. Inferior to MP3, and on top of that Sony won't let you use the hifi setting unless you buy an MP3 through their software!!!

Third...Sony has put so much copy protection crap on their device that unless you wanna mess around with burning images and Nero ImageDrive...you will be limited to storing any particular song on minidisc a maximum of 3 times!!! Ridiculous!!!

FOURTH...Minidisc won't allow you to transfer files from Minidisc to PC so the record function becomes useless if you wanna do highspeed transfer of something back to your hard drive.

EDIT: forgot to mention that I'm the disgusted owner of a NZ-707 :|

OH YEA, FIFTH...OpenMG Jukebox software is SUCK!!! Crashes often and messes up other crap under Windows XP. Many reports of slowdowns on some systems (up to 2.0ghz owners complaining!)

OOps my bad, I forgot its the Nomad II that has the FM Tuner not the IIc... What a bummer... I have a Sensory Science Rave 2200MP that has FM tuner pretty small, bout the size of a deck of cards, LCD (Not backlit), but only upgradeable to 128MB

Just got my Nomad IIC 128 mb last week.

Great little player. Volume is better when you use line out.

I have a few problems playing back some mp3 files on it though.

Really like the display and controls.

Am I missing something here? I bought my Nomad IIMG about 2-3 years ago here in the US.. I like it much more than the regular IIc. It's got a magnesium casing instead of the plastic and just looks that much more sexy than the regular one. It's got onboard 64mb memory and you can upgrade the firmware to accept 128mb smartmedia cards. It also charges the batteries when you stick it in the cradle which I don't know if the IIc does.
