I want to spend 80 bucks on a portable audio player. It has to be small and hold a decent amount of songs. Is there any MP3 player you guys recommend or should I get an entry level Sony Net MD?

EDIT: Just out of curiosity which MP3 under 200 bucks are good?

if you truely can't much on a player, iriver cd mp3 is ok bang for buck. memory card players are more convenient to use then minidisc players, but you don't get much memory.

You can get NetMd decks for next to nothing on ebay - also, MDs are pretty cheap if you buy them online (3 bucks or so).. That being said, an MP3 cd player may be the best option - cheap media, pretty portable, etc. etc.. For 200 bucks I recommend an archos jukebox.. You may think that 10 gig+ is not required but you'll quickly fill it up once you get used to carrying around your entire collection.. Umm.. I had the archos.. It's build quality is shoddy but the player is a bargain - I heard the quality has improved.. My main player is an IPOD.. Love it... Had it for 2 years now.. Worth every freaking penny (really, most other mp3 players are made by Korean companies and break pretty easily)..

I love my MD. Cheap media, long battery life, shock proof. A minidisc is like $2. Buying a memory stick or whatever isn't cheap. Sound quality of ATRAC kicks MP3's azz 3 times over. MP3 was made for computer whereas MD was designed for being portable music. I don't really have a problem with copy protection since I don't use Sony's software. I have had no problems using RealOne (I know, it's embarassing, but this is all I have it for) to convert MP3 or .wav files to ATRAC and send them to my minidisc. You still get titling functions and stuff like that. When recording in LP2 mode, you get about two CDs onto a MD. LP4 which was mentioned above, you get 5 hr, but quality = poop. SP which is full quality, you get 1 CD. I prefer LP2, sounds good and lots of music. I apologize, I will defend my MD to the end. MP3 is overrated. Besides, everyone has an MP3 player, how many of your friends have MD? Okay that was bad but you get the point

Definitely MD. I love my unit. I have a dozen MDs, and when i go to the gym, i can just pick one up... instead of continuously loading songs everytime i want something new. Also, battery life is superb... and MDs are CHEAP.
