MP3 Player killing power supplies??

Plugging up a Creative Zen MP3 player has caused 2 power supplies to go out now. Has anyone ever heard of this before?? Replace power supply, PC works fine....plug in the MP3 player again and the power supply goes out and has to be replaced again.

???

Never heard of it before. Maybe the USB connection is wired incorrectly where the device is being plugged into??? I don't know...

you sure it kills the PSU? Is the Zen a new one or used? It is possible it has a short in it but usually when you short a PSU it shuts it off, all you gotta do is unplug it for a minute or so, plug it back in, and it resets. I had something short once and after it shut off it wouldn't turn back on until I did that, ran fine after that no problems.

Antec ATX 450 watt.

Oh.. There you go.

Just kidding. 😉

If there's a short in the player, this can trip a PSU. Not sure about KILLING it because the PSU SHOULD have protective circuitry.

USB ports provide 5V. If the 5V shorts to ground, the PSU trips. I know this is the case with almost any PSU I have (don't have an Antec lying around to test.) If the PSU trips, you should be able to just unplug it, wait 10 seconds, then plug it back in.

If the PSU is in fact DEAD and not just tripped, then I guess we've found yet another way Antec has saved some coin.

Seconded.

Don't know which ISB port you're plugging it into, $50 says front. Case USBs aren't exactly standardized, most of them are wired to the usual mobo layout, but some need to be rearranged. Otherwise, things go pop, don't know how severely though.

Well I don't think they did that because my old antec had protection on it (hence why it tripped).
