I'm planning to do abit of running (possibly outdoors+treadmill) so I need a new mp3 flash ( non-hd)player today or tommorow. Which brands are:-
1. decent all round
2. not proprietary - eg no special software needed, no special jacks etc
3. small
4. ok mic (thinking to use it as a voice recorder)

I had an old iriver a year ago and the capacity is too small. Not sure how much to spend this time..

Thanks

creative muvo n200

1. good sound quality, battery life. fm.
2. drag & drop using windows explorer
3. extremely small. a little bigger than a bic cig lighter
4. mic seems to be okay

Yup, just bought one yesterday. The N200 is also very nice, and a little smaller than the TX FM, but you have to use a cable for it, and the SNR isn't as good according to creative specs. The V200, though somewhat harder to find (they're on ebay) looks very nice in that it's like the N200 but has the cable-less functionality of the TX FM. SNR seems to suffer like the N200 as well, though.

i bought the N200 - I love it but was a little disappointed that you have to use a cable with it - unlike the TX FM which is esentially the same but a little bigger and plugs directly into the port.

Yeah, that and the limited availablity (and thus higher price) of the V200. You should look at the V200 if you want N200 + TX FM functionality.

I like how the TX FM's player's detachable (from the battery. yes, that bigger piece is the battery) and looks exactly like a thumb/flash drive. Plug it in the USB port, it'll show up as a drive, drag and drop music to TX FM.

Has anyone tried the Sandisk 512? Looks pretty good for $99. Does it work like a thumb USB drive?
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=55-125-003&depa=0

Its looks like I'm getting one of the Creatives or that...
I chose the creative, although more expensive, because I've heard a lot of reviewers say the Sandisk feels cheaply built, some claim it makes popping/clicking noise when the song titles scroll on the display, it requires a cable, and some people even said it had issues with locking up during play or file transfer.

Any idea if there are plans to make the V200 available in the US anytime? I feel like I like the N200 a bit more than the TX, but I don't want to have to bring a cable with me if I want to use it at another computer...

Would you recommend the N200 over the TX FM?
