I'm going to be getting a portable mp3 player. I need it to be small & light enough for jogging/biking etc. Anybody have any recommendations? Also, I don't want to spend more than $150. Thanks in advance!

For jogging, biking, and other high impact exercise, you really need a flash-based player. What size did you have in mind?

It should be small enough to hold comfortably while running, or have an armband or something.

I'd stay away from the Shuffle, myself, because of no LCD screen. You can fit a good many songs on a 1GB player, and not knowing what's playing or where you are at would drive me nuts.

Dell's got a new 512mb player similar to the Shuttle (except it has a screen) for $99.

I'm still using my iRiver 128mb player in the gym that I picked up almost 2 years ago. I'd not hesitate to go with another iRiver player again.

Creative Muvo TX FM or similar.

Takes a standard AAA battery.
Slides apart with built in USB plug, mass storage support so you can use it anywhere.
Doubles as a USB thumb drive.
FM tuner.
Small, light, backlit screen.
Under $100.
Crappy headphones, though.

So, I take my iPod to a friend's, and use Windows Explorer to drag MP3 files to it, which are playable on the iPod?

Copying Songs from Your iPod to a Mac or PC
  • ...it is important to note that the ability to copy songs from your iPod back on to your Mac or PC is not supported in iTunes. There are many third-party applications available, however, that enable you to do this.
God forbid you're able to use the PC's file manager for this simple task!
