MP3 Player ~200$

Hi all.

I went to best buy and J&R in NY not long ago, wanting some I thought would be simple to find: A flash player with exellent sound and comfortable for jogging and such (arm band).

First of all, everytime I go to an electronic/computer store I get seriously annoyed with sales men that know little or nothing of what they are selling.
I'll explain: my question was simple, "which player has seperate Bass/Treble adjustments? I don't want the pre-set crap like rock/pop/classic", other then the young sales man having trouble understanding what is a seperate treble control (wtf?) he had to start=up every single player and I had to navigate throught the annoying menus to try and find out myself.

The best I found close to what I want is the creative brand players, that have a 5 freq EQ.
The apple iPod nano was a serious dissappointment for my audiophile ears, Having only preset crap and getting scratches from barely touching it.

So I need your recommendation for a flash player (I don't need more then 4GB and I can live with 1-2GB) that has exellent sound with Bass/Treble adjustments (like my iRiver CDMP3 player has) and has an optional arm band/strap I can purchase. Am I asking too much?

Thank you.

The iPod Shuffle (old version, at least) is supposed to sound excellent, but of course it doesn't have an equalizer. May be worth a listen, though. They're certainly cheap right now.

Otherwise, have you looked at/listened to an iRiver or Cowon flash players? Both companies are known for having quite good flash players. I'm not sure if either one makes a player that would work very well in an armband, though.

EDIT: The iRiver T10 has an adjustable 5-band EQ, an optional arm band, and comes in a 2GB capacity for $150. Probably sounds pretty good, too.

Other way around 😉. Cowon is the name of the company; iAudio is the brand name of their MP3 players (like Zen is to Creative), and JetAudio is the name of their software product(s).

Audiophiles actually don't like to color their music with EQ adjustments. But if you want one, my creative zen micro player has an EQ, and so does my Sony Ericsson k750i cell phone.

Virtual, what I was saying it that I don't actually want an EQ, I just want exellent sound with bass/treble adjustments. Nobody makes those apperantly, they had to go with the technology "flow" and put preset EQ's and user freq EQ's.

Not much choice other then the Creative's and iRiver, I also want an FM radio I won't use the player for anything other then music- meaning no photos.

Looking at the Creative Zen V Plus (2GB/4GB), and iRiver has the U10 (1GB) and Clix (2GB) models with nice big displays, and the tiny T10 (1GB) model.

Does the Zen V Plus have user custumized EQ? I know the iRiver's do have.

You could get an iPod Shuffle, and add a portable headphone amp. Adding an active filter is not too hard.

You would think,

But after many players I've heard, I came to learn that the bass/treble adjustments in my Riovolt CDmp3 player sounds the best.

The EQ custom settings usually sound a bit distorted.

OK
After much search for something that will suit me, I bought an iRiver U10 1GB player.

Thanks everyone.
