Is having MP3 files on an FTP server that are not shared to the public a risk with these new lawsuits that the RIAA are giving out? What do you think?

If it's Ht Accessed, then who would know what was hosted on the space, except the ISP host admins.

The server is locally hosted. Not by the ISP. Is there a way to further secure an FTP server?

Set it up for passive mode, encrypt PW's, run a "Safe" file system...and make sure you aren't sharin any unnecessary files. As long as its pw protected i dont think you should be worried. It sounds pretty illegal for RIAA to start crackin away at random FTP servers to view their contents. Then again, this is RIAA :)

Agreed, as long as you disable anonymous access I would of thought have having MP3s on an FTP server would be no different to storing them in any other form (i.e. on an IPOD) - its for your personal use only.

Anonymous access is disabled. Just looking for a way to secure it a little more. How can I encrypt passwords? I know that FTP usernames and passwords are plain text. Right?
