how long does it take you to encode a 4-minute 10-second song at 192kbps using the LAME mp3 encoder, and what CPU is that with? I remember encoding mp3s back when I had my Cyrix and K6-2's. I didn't mind it, and I could do all the regular activities on my system WHILE encoding and not have "lag problems" or mp3 skippage if I was playing mp3s while encoding etc.
But right now, I'm seeing something kind of messed up IMO. I have a Tbird 1.333GHz @ stock speed, everything stock, everything normal. Running Win2K Pro as always. I'm using CDex which supports LAME encoder. It takes THREE MINUTES to encode the song Red Light from the U2: War album. W-T-F? 3 minutes? On a system with a 1333MHz processor? Am i missing something here?? Should this not be many times faster than a bloody Cyrix? What the hell is going on? Do you guys take minutes to encode songs? I thought it'd at least be 40 seconds or something.
Am I alone here? Should I be looking for some bug or virus or bad install or something... what could it be, or is it normal? I hope to death it's not supposed to be like that, it's horrible. And before, my mp3 skipped while encoding. WTF? how can it be out of juice? It's running at 1.333, ram is at 133 (PC 133 ram), everything is set properly and working properly.. no resource conflicts.
So how long does it take you to encode songs? sigh.. I'm off to bed. I'll check back later.
