Does anyone know of an mp3 encoder that could take an mp3 file at say 128kbps and change it into a 80 or 92 kbps file???

I'm trying to sqeeze more songs onto my mp3 player.

thanx!

use Search box here and in the Software forum for all the MP3 threads you'll ever need.

Summary: Yes there are several freeware ones but quality of going from 128 to 92 will be much worse than if you ripped your own CDs directly to 92. You'd be better off buying a flash card if your player is expandable.

lame and razorlame, thought i think the current release of RAZORLAME has the lame dll or exe. Just loads your mp3s and pick a different output directory from your originating mp3s and encode.

ogg is nice, but I have a pretty new mp3 player (Nomad 3) and it does not support it, and I don't kow of many who do, so I would go with lame, I have had good experiences with it, back in the day whenI had to fit songs onto 64mb

check out ogg, if your player supports it.
A lot of players are not including support for OGG because it is free.

Try Musicmatch jukebox. It's got a great utility for converting files to other formats and modifying bitrates.

because it's free? i dont understand.
