MP3 editing software. Must ... find ...

Seeking some recommendations on software that will enable me to delete segments of tracks encoded in MP3 format, with no harm to tags. Hopefully freeware.
I'm running Windows 7.

audacity is great. Just a heads up, it doesn't allow mp3 saves by default, you have to get the lame mp3 encoder

Okayyy. I already have lame in some directory. Sounds like deleting segments requires a re-encode then?

I have not installed Audacity yet - too preoccupied with health concerns - but I have it. Thanks.

if you're wanting a program that doesnt re-encode you might check out mp3DirectCut http://mpesch3.de1.cc/mp3dc.html

Audacity is pretty good as others have mentioned. I use it to record vinyl to MP3.
