Is this topic allowed? hmmmmm...guess so.....

What do you use to compress Audio CD to mp3? I need a simple and relatively easy to use program. Any out there?

Plenty out there.

You have basically two choices:

1.) Get a stand-alone program that converts the wav file automatically to mp3 without any tweaking. Use: Audiocatalyst, Music Match Jukebox, ...

2.) Get a program, with some advanced features like noise reduction, fade in, fade out, track split, analyzing, comparing, ... There programs usually use an external codec to convert the wav to mp3. The best codec, in my opinion, is the LAME codec. Another good one is the Frauenhofer Institut one (get the Radium enhanced version). Programs like that: EAC http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/

Here is some more info about mp3 encoding

Hope this helps

EAC. This proggy is best proggy for accurate burns, especially for Cd's in less than perfect condition. It comes with the excellent Lame codec to turn the wav's into Mp3.

Do not use audiocatalyst!!! ack :|

I use this prog. It's pretty good and uses the LAME encoder. RIPs audio from cd to mp3 on the fly.

Another vote for LAME. Any frontend will do. There are some listed on the LAME website.
