Apologies if this is a repost; I did do a search.
As posted in Slashdot here, mp3.com was acquired by CNET, who plans to shut the site down in its current form and apparently remake it as yet another music purchase site a la iTMS, Napster, or Rhapsody. Here's the email:
Now, mp3.com has pretty much sucked balls since Universal purchased the site, emasculated the pay for play program, and changed the layout/format of the site from something clear and easy to use to the current gawdawful cluttered mess. In the past, mp3.com used to be an excellent music resource, providing a means for new artists to get their music out to the public, and for the public to become acquainted with some surprisingly good talent. A significant part of my electronica mp3 collection comes from mp3.com downloads, and I continue to listen to them to this day.
One thing we can almost guarantee for certain is that in its next incarnation, mp3.com will just suck that much more.
