In their Friday flier, Fry's have an ad for a Comptron portable MP3/CD player for $49. I bought one today to try it out, and it's not bad for the price - at any rate better than the twice as expensive Memorex piece of c**p I tried once. Uses two 1.5V batteries, they are supposed to last 6 hours in MP3 mode and 8 hours in CD mode. Plays 32-320kbs MP3s, has 25s shock protection for MP3 and 45s for CD. Comes with an AC adaptor, headphones and a sound cable. For $50 I may keep it to play MP3s at work -- it has a Line Out so I can connect it to my stereo and listen.

Does it display filenames, song titles, or artist (aka ID3 tag information)? Or is it just track number and time display?

I don't want to crapp your deal but you're better off if you buy the Rio Volt SP90 for $90 IMHO

Sounds like a case of saying something and meaning something else. Have you bought and had your hands on a SP90 ?? If so....contribute constructive hot-deal comparisons...if not...well...you know !!!

No, it doesn't display ID3 tags, just folder/track number. I'm listening to a CD-R with MP3s right now, and it's OK for what I wanted it (to listen to my MP3 collections at work). Undoubtedly the SP90 is better, but for twice as much (if you're lucky).
