I'm a fan of oldtime radio, aka OTR, and am looking for an MP3 boombox that will play bitrates as low 24kbps. Most OTR shows are encoded at a 24 or 32 bitrate. Anyone know of any boomboxes that will play this low?
What is your budget? If you're handy with electronics and tools you could build one with a small form factor computer, a touch screen LcD, and an amplifier circuit. Probably cost you in the neighborhood of 200 bucks to do it nicely though, depending on speakers and how you outfit the computer.
I'm looking at $100 or so. Wally world sells a Durabrand for about $35, and Sears has a GPX for about $50. Unfortunately, both of these have analog tuners. I'd like to have remote control.
