MP3/AVI mass re-encoding

Is there some way to re-encode all of my MP3's to a certain format and bitrate all at once? Same for AVI or other video files. I want to have all of these files in the same format. It would be really tedious to do it all by hand. I think I know how I can do the MP3s, but how can I do this for video files? Thanks!

VirtualDub can do batch processing.

But remember, MP3 and most Video codecs are loss-full meaning it discards some data to get higher compression ratios so every time you reprocess the files you lose a little quality. And with MP3s, reencoding them at a higher bitrate gets you nothing but a slightly larger file, if even that.

Very true about the MP3's, and when encoding anything to MP3 status, unless it's 48khz, use 320KBps otherwise for 44KHz use 128KBps and below. I found for sounds file conversions (mainly WAV and MP3) Musicmatch can do it in bulk and very good quality, but other than those two formats I'd have to say Virtuadub/Nandub as said before but that's 1 file at a time.
What exactly is it that you're trying to do?

I like CDex - it made it very easy to re-encode all my MP3's down to 128kbps so that I could fit more on a single CD, for in the car; think it was like 180 files on one CD; I'm going to go down to 112kbps though. The car itself makes too much noise on the road, just from wind and the tires on the road, that low-quality won't be a problem.
