MP Gaming: USB vs Com port ext modems?

i was wondering where abouts USB modems fit in with regards to being fastest for online gaming, where the latency of teh modem counts a bit more than for surfing where the bandwidth i smost important... im pretty sure about the order of the list for (56k) modems in general but no idea where USB ones would fit in:

1. COM port ext modem
2. ISA modem
3. PCI modem
4. On-board modem (without using S/W, rare)
5. any s/w modem
6. on-board S/w modems

basically im wondering wether i should at least try and swap my USB modem for the COM port version... I should have stuck to USRobotics modems too but the price difference was just too great.

thanks...

PCI hardware modem is probably #1.. However, I don't think changing your USB modem for it or anything else will TRULY give you a major performance enhancement.. Having a decent ISP can help where you connect at a decent speed as compared to modem speed.. Of course, the obvious is to go for a high speed connection, but I'm sure you've thought of that already..

yeah i cant change ISP as we have this subscribed package (odd UK system) that we got early so pay like half what they charge now. they are pretty crap but im a poor student 🙁

and cable modems and the like i'd love, but in UK its a bit of a joke for normal people as theyre extortionate cost and anyway available in maybe 30% of the country at most.

thanks tho
