Mozy online backup - not worth it.

Well... after downloading all my data from Mozy after a raid array failed... I find that much of my data is corrupted...

This is after creating the restore package multiple times, and downloading multiple times... and using different machines to do so... so the issue isn't on my end.

Luckily, I have a local backup on my NAS but it is older than what Mozy had, but it will have to do...

Very disappointed. Can't recommend.

I've got 4Gb up there. I've pulled down all of it... and then only my mail files... mail files are the ones that are corrupt.

I opened a ticket with them... They have not been helpful at all. If you look at their forums, you'll see a ton of people having issues with corrupt data. Ironically... Mozy decides whether the issue is resolved or not... not the customer.

Yikes. I've had to do a couple large-ish restores using Crashplan. No problems for me.

I used to recommend Mozy as well...mainly because of name recognition (I've never used an online backup service). Guess I won't do that anymore. Thanks for the info. You'd think with a company that's so big and advertises so much, they'd have their shit together.

That's quite deplorable. Mozy is good for a number of reasons but if that is what happened with you then one should look around before signing up for a Mozy account :/ I have been using Mozy for a number of months but fortunately never ever had this issue. THANK GOD! Anyhow, the best practice which i think one should adopt is to keep the backup on several options like; Crashplan or Backblaze. Although, this is a hefty task to do but in the end you won't let down with your cherished data and files. ^_^

Are they PST files that were setup in Outlook when you backed them up?

Old thread resurrection batman!

Mozy lost a TON of customers when they went from unlimited to charging per gig about 2 years ago. I've switch to crashplan and haven't looked back. Unlimited data for $3-5/mo is perfect. I think carbonite is pretty good too, but they have limits (max 4gig per file) and throttling.

Yeah I was pretty peeved about that. I switched to Backblaze. I've had a really good experience with them so far.

I wonder if your system pushed corrupted data or it got corrupted on their end.

I backup to amazon s3 for about $2/month using my own software.
