Mozilla(under linux) problem..

I just installed a fresh copy of linux and am getting things set up again so I most recently installed the mozilla tgz that came with Slack 9. Mozilla 1.3. The only problem I run into is when I run the command "mozilla", two mozilla tasks pop up in the taskbar, one starts up normally and runs the other sits in the bar while a little hourglass next to it spins and then eventually just closes itself. This happens every time I run mozilla or click the mozilla icon. This had never happened before on my previous install of Linux.. anyone have any idea what's going on?
