I am using Mozilla Thunderbird and I have Charter Communications (I know they suck but are the only 1/2 way decent ISP in my area) as my ISP and TB is downloading duplicate emails (It did it before Version 17.0) it is now just starting to bug me alot more then it did before
Here is the Charter email support page
I am using the mobile.charter.net way of getting my email
Obviously there is setting or something I missed but what I don't know?
and charter is of no help as I can still log on and receive email

So can anyone versed in IMAP and Thunderbird tell me what I am doing wrong?

Thanks

What do you mean exactly by downloading duplicate email?

Edit:
I'd use these settings. I dunno why they have a special mobile setup, but maybe it's screwing something up.

If you are accessing your Charter.net Email address from MULTIPLE desktop computers and/or have mobile devices configured to access the same Email address use these settings:

Username: username@charter.net (Make sure you enter @charter.net after your username or you will be unable to login)
Password: The password you use to login to your email account
Server Type: IMAP
Incoming Mail server: IMAP.charter.net
Port: 143
Outgoing Mail Server: SMTP.charter.net
Port: 25

I mean duplicate emails as I get the same email twice in a row from the server
I already tried the other way and it seems the only way I can receive email is from the mobile site

So if you use IMAP and SFTP you get nothing?

I believe the mobile.charter.net is an IMAP server. But using any other server besides the POP3 server it will just time out and I get nothing
also I'm sorry but I don't know what SFTP is

Sorry mistyped there. I meant SMTP, but you answered my question regardless.

Not sure if this will help, here are my Charter settings, down here in SC:
Incoming: pop.charter.net, port 110
Secure Connection: no
Use secure authentication is not selected

Ougoing: smtp.charter.net
port: 25
secure connection: none
use name and password is checked
secure connection: no

OK that worked but what is the difference between IMAP & POP? I was told by Charter to use the IMAP server but that does not seem to be working correctly at the moment
I guess I will stick with the POP server for now

From: http://www1.umn.edu/adcs/guides/email/imapvspop.html

The main difference, as far as we are concerned here, is the way in which IMAP or POP controls your e-mail inbox.

When you use IMAP you are accessing your inbox on the U of M's central mail server. IMAP does not actually move messages onto your computer. You can think of an e-mail program using IMAP as a window to your messages on the server. Although the messages appear on your computer while you work with them, they remain on the central mail server.

POP does the opposite. Instead of just showing you what is in your inbox on the U's mail server, it checks the server for new messages, downloads all the new messages in your inbox onto your computer, and then deletes them from the server. This means that every time you use POP to view your new messages, they are no longer on the central mail server.
