Great. Using Opera as a main browser, but Mozilla is a nice backup. The rendering speed is awesome, but IMO the UI still feels a bit sluggish.

Upgraded it on both machines today. I've been using it exclusively (only as a browser, though) for the last 6 months... I love it.

I upgraded to 1.1 today. Navigator or the email client has a huge memory leak. Mozilla runs from 2MB at startup to 80MBs in less than an hour of use.

Im using 1.1 beta (browser only) and I dont see any memory problems. It was taking between 20 and 30MB (cant remember) with 3 windows open and probably a dozen tabs. I changed to the little mozilla theme (or whatever its called) and it feels much faster now, but that could just be me thinking its faster.

Did you install 1.1 over your old install, or perhaps have Netscape 6 or 7 installed as well? That might be causing it...

Mozilla's site says explicitly not to:

No I didn't install over 1.0. But I do have a question now. Since I am using mozilla for email and I am not supposed to install over the top of it then how do I keep my email everytime I upgrade?

Uninstalling Mozilla 1.0 will not delete your profile(s).

When you run Mozilla 1.1 for the first time, it picks up any existing profiles. In other words, you have to perform a manual upgrade (uninstall/install) rather than an automatic one.

I don't use the Mozilla mail client, but the browser itself (v 1.0) does leak memory in my opinion. It's *MUCH* improved over earlier milestones, but as an example, a couple days ago I had a long-running (maybe a day long) browsing session consume about 256 MB physical (resident) RAM. My usage patterns are pretty intensive in tab counts and duration, and Mozilla 1.0 is pretty stable anyhow. Since I have 1 GB physical memory, it's not a problem for me. Note that a day long session really isn't that long, but in my experience, Mozilla 1.0 is much more stable than Netscape 4.x or IE (any version).

Note that usually, Mozilla (on Linux) starts out using maybe 30 MB physical memory and doesn't exceed 100 MB. It's just the occasional problem session where it grows apparently without bound. Either way, in my opinion, that's a memory leak since any time you close a tab or window, any objects in memory associated with those pages should be recycled.

Mozilla 1.0 has shaped up to be everything I had hoped for. I started using NCSA Mosaic years ago, then I started to use Netscape around the 1.0 days with my dialup account (ah.. the days of free pr0n). After around IE4, or so, Netscape started to lag behind features and speed. During the time between the Netscape 4.x days and the Mozilla 1.0, MS has made IE5 almost the default web brower for a lot of people. When some people think "internet", they think "AOL". When others think web surfing, they think "Internet Explorer".

Now the days of popups are here, lots of flash ads, etc. With Mozilla, controlling the javascript, popups and ads are too easy and built into the browser. No need to pay for software that SHOULD be controlled in the browser. If IE6+ doesn't have tabbed browsing, popup control and some of the nifty features Mozilla has, a lot of other people will switch to Mozilla.
