Moving Windows installation drive to different IDE channel?

I've just installed an add-on PCI ATA controller.

I'd like to move a Windows 2000 installation drive from IDE channel 0 to channel 2 without OS reinstallation. I've read the FAQ and a couple related MSKB articles without a clear-cut answer.

I'm pretty sure the system BIOS will boot from IDE2. Do I need to do anything besides editing C:\boot.ini to reference the new drive location? How do I preserve the drive letter? Any other related issues?

A simple step-by-step guide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

As long as the system's BIOS finds and boots from the partition, you shouldn't have to do anything special to the OS.

This should work, no problem.
