I'm moving, likely this week, and am a bit worried about bed bugs in the movers van as I live in NYC and the little critters have been an issue here for a while now. I haven't selected a company yet, but is there something I should ask prospective moving companies with regards to how they deal with preventing or dealing with bed bugs in their vans?

I read on one site that some movers had wrapped anything that could already be, or could become infested by bed bugs, in plastic wrap. Is this standard procedure nowadays?

Wrap your mattress in plastic...you can get mattress moving bags almost anywhere for like $10.

Or set off a bug bomb in the new place after the move.

Or both.

You could possibly ask if they fumigate their vans between moves to prevent bed bugs.
To keep my mattress clean, I always place it in a plastic slip cover. You can get one at any uhaul and just seal the end.

I was going to do that myself, but what about the sofa, wood furniture, etc.

From everything I've read bug bombs are useless for bed bugs.

Hmm, this might do.

If I take the tables apart I could probably wrap them as well. I guess I'll ask the moving company if they could wrap everything themselves. I'd imagine they're fine with it as they are paid by the hour.

If you're really worried about it, move the stuff yourself.

Otherwise, take your chances with plastic coverings and bug bombs.
