I'm sure I could google this but I'm lazy. I'm trying to get a sweet desktop wallpaper of like, the planets or something, but I want it to be moving like the wallpaper on my phone.

Windows 7.

Websites I'm clicking on are blocked by the "man" because I'm here at work.

Suggestions?

This used to be a feature in Windows Vista but was removed in Win7. There is a way to port it into Win7 as well.

Thing was called "dream scene" where small lopping mp4 clips could be set as windows wallpaper.

There's also a website for it where you can find video wallpapers:

Thanks broski! I get off in an hour I'll definately check it out. Saturns rings here I come!

Oh, how does it affect performance from your experience? Noticeable?

You might think it would be cool, but I think it would be annoying as hell. I've had many situations where an underlying application or browser window had some type of animation in it and just a piece of it was barely visible as I'm doing something in a window on top. It's distracting, to say the least. So I have go to the window and stop the animation, or close or minimize the window - whatever it takes to get it out of sight. Now if that was happening on the desktop, where small parts of the desktop are always visible, it would be guaranteed to be annoying and would require you to maximize application windows to hide it.

Thing is how often does one view the desktop?

Every so often. I like seeing movement when I'm thinking, or want to take a quick break from work. I have falling elements on my desktop fall through winter, and window shade my windows when I want to look at them for awhile.

Wouldn't that be more apropos of a screen saver then? Something that you could launch with a hotkey or something similar. Not a desktop.

I like the combination of falling elements, and a desktop picture, especially fall-winter, my favorite time of the year.

I'm currently using xdecorations. It's a little cartoony, but satisfactory. I prefer compiz, but that doesn't get developed anymore aside from a subset of features Unity uses.

I like screensavers also, but those engage at longer time intervals. I have it set to random, and like seeing what it's doing when I have extended paperwork.
