Accepted a job offer in Mandeville, LA. I was notified about my position being eliminated at the company I worked for in Cincinnati. It gave me some time to look at areas that aren't absolute shit in the Winter. Had some Skype interviews in Phoenix, AZ (my first choice), Orlando, FL, and finally New Orleans, LA. My wife grew up near Hammond, LA, so that tipped the balance in favor of New Orleans.

The company in Mandeville paid for the plane tickets for a face-to-face interview. A good sign that they really wanted me. They gave me an offer on the spot.

If anyone in the New Orleans area has any advice or wants to meet-up, let me know. I already have a car cruise planned for this Saturday. I'll be taking my C6. It'll be a good way of seeing the area.

No tips but I have a few friends that live there and it's a fantastic city. Diverse, quirky, great food, tons of music. Congrats on the new job!

Mandeville is on the north shore, still gotta cross the causeway to get down to NOLA. It's not that bad a drive though.

A bunch of people that work in New Orleans actually live on the north shore and commute because it is way cheaper and most of the suburbs directly around NOLA stink. Luckily you will be working in Mandeville so you are good to go.

I'm a "swamp people" now. I'm currently living in a town house in Hammond, LA.

Enjoy the heat and humidity. That's the only thing I don't miss from home (Southwest LA)...

It's better than snow and road salt. Not driving my cars for several months in Winter is a real downer.

with what i heard about what happened during hurricane katrina down there.id much rather take the snow then that shit

I wanted to move up to New Orleans from Clearwater FL years ago, but for some reason my wife isn't too keen on it.

So we've stayed here the last 20 years.
