Live in Civic Center close by Tenderloin for 2 years and this is my experience so far.
-crackheads and hobos galore
-have to watch where you walk to make sure you don't step on human feces
-smells like urine every other block
-The city closed down a mental hospital a few years ago because it would be cheaper to just pay the crazy drug addicts rent instead. So now you have crackheads, poverty section 8 tenants and the middle working class all living in the same $2500/month studio apartment building.
-The homeless problems in SF can NEVER be solved. Liberals treat hobos here very well. If you're a politician in SF, it would be a career disaster to even speak of the homeless problems in SF.
-Public transportation is crap compared to real major metro cities like NYC or London.
