On July 5th i'm moving to Phoenix to go to DeVry.

What should I expect. What should I take. Gonna have an apartment with 2 other people.

Also, is it hard to pick up a good paying job there?

DeVry is a community college. There are multiple ones, why not go to the one here in San Jose/Milpitas, CA? CA > Arizona.

That depends on what skills and experience you have... the market for tech-savvy people is pretty good here. Be prepared for a shock, though. Until you've lived through a summer here, you have NO idea how hot HOT really is. Just wait until you turn on the tap and get a confused look on your face when the hot water comes out cooler than the cold water. :)

Don't get me started.... Just kidding, you'll like it. I'm a nut for cold weather and the holidays, so I don't particularly like the heat. 115 in the summer or 75 in December, it's all too hot for me. Jobs are good here. Usually ranked #1 in the country. However, everywhere is hurting since the economic slump. There's not a whole lot to do here. Bars, restaurants, and shopping. It's laid out very well. Hard to get lost here.

What should you bring? Light clothing. Leave your coats at home, you won't need them. Buy a sunshade for your car. Make sure your AC works WELL. Prepare for the white hot heat of hell. Other than that, it's not so bad. :)

Yeah, all that stuff is God telling you not to live in the fvcking desert. I mean, seriously, it's kept alive totally artificially.... without the highways, you'd be fvcked.

All else being the same, you'd be correct. However, based on the fact that he's going to be having two roommates, I'm guessing that he's paying his own room and board, and that would be a lot harder to do in the Silicon Valley area than here in Phoenix. Probably a lot easier to get a job here, too... I hear the job market still isn't so hot up there.

Oh yeah, cost of living alone is reason enough to move to Phoenix. A 2 bedroom apt runs $750 in Phoenix. In San Jose, you get half the apt for twice as much. I have friends that pay $1500/mo for a 1 bedroom apt in San Jose.

Welcome to hell muahahahahaha!!!

No seriously it's a pretty cool place. I like it here. It is usually pretty hard for non natives to get used to the heat though. I have a couple of friends that went to/are going to DeVry here.

Well, as for the heat, I come from El Paso and that's pretty hot. But I've heard it gets to about 20 degrees more over there.

My apartment will be from San Valiente and for a 3 bedroom for 3 people it is $1099 or around $320 a month for each.

Don't be a prick. I don't like anyone who puts down someone else's ambition for an education.

I didn't mean to be offensive, I was just saying they had multiple campuses, so why move to an unfamiliar place just to go to that certain one?

Jeez buddy, take a chill pill.

Well, he asked about it, so it definitely struck a chord with him.

Are you getting your apt through the school (or some other housing agency)? If so, see if the apt will be furnished already or not. That'll help you figure out what you will need to take with you. what might be a good idea would be to only bring the small or expensive items with you, and buy the rest here (like an entertainment center, desk, etc).

Do you know where your apt will be at? If you can find out at least what the crossroads will be, someone here should be able to tell you about the area.

Umbrella?

HA! It hasn't rained here since April 10th.

You can use it to block the sun when you're out walking around (not that it'd help with the heat coming off the ground anyways).

The apartment is right across the campus. Somewhere close to the mall or some stuff.

Guess I'll call tomorrow and see if it is furnished...

Are you from a large metropolis area? I've lived here 10 years, and have no idea where the DeVry campus is. And which mall? There's about 10 in the Phoenix metro area.

There's 10 malls in a city of less than a million people?
