Title says all. I'm looking for an upscale apartment for rent that's in a decent location. Preferably something that was just built or recently remodeled. Almost everything I've seen online looks like a 1970's shag apartment. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks.

There's this thing called the internet and you can look at apartments online and if they are more upscale they certainly should be viewable online.

That's a lot of money to rent. I don't understand why would anyone pay so much.

It's Palo Alto, the heart of the Silicon Valley. For $1,600 a month, he'd be lucky to get a 1 bedroom that doesn't look like a roach motel.

Silicon Valley has no heart. :p

(that said, I thought synnyvale/santa clara area was the heart.)

Not really. $1600 will buy you a really nice 1 bedroom apt. All the OP needs to do is look in CL.

I was at Stanford for one summer and East Palo Alto is one place you never want to go unless you have to.

EPA is the ghetto of Silicon Valley. With that said, the other half of Palo Alto has housing prices even San Francisco can't match. We're talking 2BR houses for multimillion prices. It's ridiculous.

Palo Alto is one of those old towns where there are a lot of old houses. Even though they're old they're ripoffs. If you want something newer, I suggest you look at the nearby towns like Sunnyvale or Mountain View. They're more manageable places where younger people live. Palo Alto is a place that if you can get in, you keep taht house forever because the value just keeps appreciating and even if you don't care about that rental income is insane. People retire there.

You can still search, but to me there's only one reason you live there. It's either for the great schools or because you have money. If you're working in that area, I suggest you look elsewhere. I live in Cupertino myself, and it's another expensive neighborhood. It's less of a retirement area and more of a good schools area (supposedly better than Palo Alto). So even though Apple is here, I highly doubt people move here just to work there. IF you're not here for the schools, you wouldn't want to pay $1million plus for a tiny house.

pure ghetto...plain and simple. Yes, there are better parts, but they're not MUCH better. I havn't been into Palo Alto in several years, so east PA MIGHT have improved...
I worked in that part of the state for many years. I'd be VERY surprised if the OP can find a "high-end apartment" for $1600...or even under $2000.

Apartments, yes. High-end? Not likely.

High end, in Palo Alto, $1600 or less? I doubt it exists. People say that rents in Silicon Valley are expensive because rents are ... (wait for it) ... expensive.

LOL, back in the 90's, East Palo Alto had the highest murder rate in the country. It's like they had some kind of competition with Oakland going for a while.

Yeah, it's a scary place... I drove through it a few times, and the main streets seemed to be filled with dive bars and quick check cashing places with iron bars on the windows.

On the bright side, I'll bet that the OP can find a cheap apartment there :)

Define high-end OP. Do you want a bazillion amenities or just a place that isn't gross?

Is Palo Alto the only city you can live in? What about Mountain View?

It's not from the facts, it's from BlahBlahYouToo's implication that the racial diversity of a city is an indicator of crime rate.

Yeah, it's definitely a shit hole.

My daughter's "baby daddy" is from there, many of his friends STILL live there. Hasn't gotten MUCH better.

But it IS an indicator of the crime rate, especially in ghetto areas like East PA.

It's almost ALWAYS the areas with high minority populations that have the higher crime rate. Yes, there are other causes such as poverty, (although why does being poor mean you need to be a criminal?) lack of good education, and fewer job opportunites, but when you get down to it...it's still the minorities who commit the most crimes in these area...

There's nothing racist about the facts.

I think it's because he's bigoted against American Indians ..... there's more than twice as many in East Palo Alto then at normal Palo Alto!!!!
