Moving to LA from another country - good guide / book / map to read?

Actually moving to Orange County, but I like driving around so I'm sure I'll be all over the place, especially since I'll have little work and tons of free time. So what can I read to learn about the city so that I can not feel like a tourist and feel at home there? Something with maps and explanations what's where would be awesome, cuz it's a big place and I don't know much about any of it.

Awesome beaches, volleyball, surfing and tons of young people. I can't think of a better place to live.
