me and my gf are moving from PA to Georgia at the beginning of June. she was born and raised there, and all her family is there. when we started dating back in august i said iwould be willing to go if she ever wanted to move home. fast forward a few months to may. the house is up for sale and we just found out tonight that the people we showed it to on monday wanted to buy it. i was excited for the move up until tonight when we got the news. now i'm scared and nervous. partly because i'm leaving all my friends and family and everything i've ever known behind ( i was born and raised here in PA). and the other part of my scardness(is that a word?) is we still don't have jobs lined up yet.

i have never moved this far away from home. is there any tips or secrets to getting over this fear?

Dear god. Turn back to PA and never look back! Georgia is the cesspool of stupidity.

My dad's folks live there. Check out Country's.

EDIT: And Ezel's. And the Bullock House... Not that big of a fan of Macon/Brennan Road but dammit there was a place out in Phenix City that was pretty good, not Country's good, can't recall the name of it.

Not to be a downer, but 99% of home buyers are wacko nut jobs. I would not start planning until paperwork was signed. It would suck to have everything packed up and loaded only to find out that the buyers flaked.

People are about the same everywhere, though people in the south don't tollerate foolishness as much. :p

My only advice is to get a job lined up. It's probably a bad idea to move somewhere without a job.

I'd be on the phone tomorrow. Also, not to worry you, but until you close on your house, the buyers can always bail on you, leaving you with a house in PA and $500 in earnest money for your troubles.

Yes, Krystal is delicious. Unfortunately all of the Krystals near me closed due to poor management and improper hygiene. Good luck, Georgia is pretty.

Gotcha, my grandmother lives near there on Mariner. What you need to do is take Britt David West towards the interstate, but stay on it when it turns off to the right (as opposed to staying on for Airport Thruway), take that until you hit Veteran's Parkway, turn right and follow that until Whittlesey and turn right on that and that's how you get to Country's. That's all you need to know about Columbus in my opinion, well other than don't pick fights with the soldiers.

I'm from PA, moved down here 11 years ago after getting out of the service, 19 more years and then I can head back to PA. I'm almost there, I'm almost there.

Perhaps, but we are rather anal about using the word 'of'.

Some pretty damn good barbeque and about the only thing I'll eat when I'm down there (not that there isn't good food there, quite the contrary, just that nobody seems to know the first thing about barbeque once you get north of Tennessee). I'm sure your girlfriend's folks could steer you to other good joints as well but Country's appears rather... umm.... citified for a bbq joint but surprisingly enough their food isn't the worse for it. Traffics kinda heavy in that area too. You've got the airport, Peach Tree Mall, the interstate, and another mall that's been built off of Whittlesey in that area.

When you get a house I hear Phenix City is the place to be, that's where my brother lives, his unit is stationed at Ft Benning in Columbus. The drive is a little more but it's cheaper from what they say.

Georgia and the deep south ARE full.... of ignorant, delusional people who use commas when they are necessary, and tend to express their thoughts in full sentences, unlike people who say things like "Really white trash land."

That's all.

Then again, Columbus should be fairly rural.... have fun?
