Im moving to tempe arizona, well that is where work is anyhow, and would like some advice on good apartments.

Im looking for something that kids could live in as well as adults. I know tempe is a college area with ASu right there so i was also looking at mesa and surrounding areas. I've been told that I60 and I10 are just horrible to drive on any part of the day, is this true?

Anyone that can give some input it would be greatly appreciated. Also if you live there and found a really nice apartment please let me know :)

Try and get some leads from whoever is coordinating your move.

Pretty much every apartment will have some bad reviews. You're better off going in person to investigate yourself.

EDIT: I live in south tempe, and before I moved here, I used rent.com to find 10-15 good places in the area, and took a day to check them all out before I made my decision.

There are contacts within the company that you have.

Use them to get recommendations/rejections

I haven't lived there since 2004, so I'm a bit out of date. But the I-10 going from "out" in the 'burbs to "in" to the city is wretched from about 7AM-9AM. The 60 westbound from Mesa into Tempe is pretty crappy too. As is the 101 northbound from the 60 up to Scottsdale.

I used to live off of Baseline & 32nd. I worked up off the corner of Broadway & the 101. I was lucky enough to be going against traffic for most of my trip. I could get there in about 15 minutes. If I was going with the traffic it was closer to 45. It was about a 7 mile run.

Those are pretty nice places. The one on Baseline is pretty conveniently located. Right off I-10 and the 60. Close to most grocery stores/department stores...and a Fry's :)

Agreed, nice places, but on the higher side when it comes to rent.

Truthfully, compared to a lot of the other parts of the country you get A LOT for your money. They are decent sized, clean, and the grounds are almost resort like. Unlike anything Srych would be used to coming from IL.

The apartments down there are insane. When you go to the higher end of things it helps keep some of the college kids and riff-raff out. A nice bonuse if you have kids to be concerned about.

i am planning on visiting next week, i have a list of about 8 apartments im going to look at im just concerned about the crime. I hear in reviews that police make daily stops at certain places and im sure the management won't tell me that. As far as contacts I am hoping to be able to talk to my will be boss in Arizona but he will probably gear me towards scottsdale and they are a bit pricey out there. I'd like to score a 3bed room for around $1200 a month but i would settle for a 2 bedroom (kids can bunk). I just really know absolutly nothing of the area.

Is south tempe far enough from ASU to make it a nice area?

It's definitely far enough to escape from the college kids. Where I'm at is about 5.5 miles from ASU. Defining it a "nice area" is subjective, but I like where I live =)

I'd check Craigslist, try to arrange to see some stuff from indivdual landlords. I found a pretty nice place in Scottsdale when I was living there for 3 months via CL, and also found my current apartment in Atlanta that way. $1200/month won't get you a 3 bedroom in scottsdale, maybe in Tempe. When I was working in South Tempe off of Elliot Rd, a lot of the guys lived in Chandler.
