Sorry if this offends anyone, but the military goes against my morals and beliefs, its not something I would even consider.

:hmm:

i'm guessing it's hard work, which is against your morals and beliefs.

OP, I heard that Ft. McMurray, Alberta area is having trouble with enough employees for the sand oil industry. Maybe you want to check it out?

I don't know how much is cost of living in your area but I need at least 1K a month for minimum basic expenses (housing/food/etc.)

Yeah but without proper qualifications and experience in the oil/oil sands industry, he has no chance of getting past the roadblock that is HR.

Why can't he start slow as manual labor work/helper/clean up to earn some money and work his way up, i.e. work and then go to school part time at night? Heck, he even said that ramen noodle and work at McD are better than what he has now.

I am not an oil and gas industry expert but from what I heard and read, as long as you are willing to work hard you can make some money and that is what OP needs right now.

Of course he can do that but I'm just saying that in this day and age, you don't just walk into the office of a company and ask for a job. Everything's done through a process. The receptionist at the front desk would ask for a resume and would pass it to HR which is a dead-end.

His best bet would be the governmental human resources offices who can help him get started with a job or at least pay for some sort of vocational training in the oil sands industry and then help facilitate a job.

Moving to a different city with no money

I just want to hear the straight up facts. I want to move to BC, or Montreal and live on my own, and find any way possible to survive. I have only a couple grand in my pocket, but I cant live where I live any longer, I live in Ontario. Do you guys think I can survive?

According to ATOT world experts, simply get a woman without pointy elbows.

OP needs to seriously ask himself if, after dropping out of high school and college, the issues "bringing him down" will magically disappear with a change of address. At 21, having no education, no trade and no willingness to swap four years in the military for a free college education makes it sound like you might not be as motivated as you think. With no plan your post smells more of desperation.

If you truly are motivated then you might be better off sucking it up where you are and pounding out your high school certificate, while working whatever job you can land and saving every cent you can. After that you will need to go to college or learn a trade, and you can't count on anybody funding that except you. Financial aid is something you apply and hope for, but can't count on.

And you will have to really SUCK IT UP. It's easy to say working McDonald's and eating ramen every night would be heaven, but do you have the drive to accept that kind of life and continue working hard to advance your education or training? You have to give up everything you don't absolutely need. Take all that energy you've been wasting on the bullshit pulling you down and redirect it into positive steps that will build you a better future. That will be shit-ton of hard work. Are you mentally prepared?

Frankly, if your situation is as bad as you say it is, sucking it up for four years in the military, where they will house you, feed you, teach you a trade and help pay for college, seems like a small price to pay for turning your life around.

Whatever you chose to do, good luck and stay tough. Make a plan and stick to it.

Ramen noodles every night, and a job at Mcdonalds is heaven compared to this, thanks for the advice and kind words, I appreciate it. I guess I'm going to have to work out a plan, and stick with it.

well if you don't mind living like that, then it shouldn't be too hard. find a dirt cheap place to live; a not so nice apartment doesn't seem to bother you. cheap living expenses and if you don't mind a shitty job, I'm sure you can find something. I say go for it

no OP needs to live out of his car for a while till he finds a job. Use the 2 grand for food, gas and bare necessities...once he finds a job, he can stand a chance. its always an uphill climb. don't make it worse by paying rent and deposit then end up starving or no gas while job hunting. doesnt sound like he has anything to lose, just do what the bums do, learn from them and work up from there.

1. Get a GED or canadian equivalent (they arent hard to get)
2. Go to a small and cheap CC that has its own dorms
3. Student loans (probably need co-sign) and scholarships can pay for more than 100% of your living
4. Graduate and find job with whatever your profession

Why exactly do you wanna go to a different city? Can't you just move out of your family's home but stay in Ontario? This way you would at least know your way around, where to look for work, etc...

Serious answer: you might want to leave the continent altogether. Look for a job as a consultant, or an English teacher (or assistance) or something that can use skills you already have (translation, etc...) in a far east Asian country. That way, you can afford to live, work AND gain some perspective and experience out of life. Then, while doing that, save up and come back and really do what you need and want to do.

I live in BC, geat place to live but not exactly cheap.

I know a buddy looking for a roommate, $350 a month including utilities. PM me if you do decide to move out here i may be able to get you a entry level labour job i have a few connections in the transport business and could probably get you into a warehouse doing grunt labour, if you have your forklift ticket that would help too and get you more money to start.

That right there is some damn good advice.

OP, you need to ask yourself that question and be totally honest with yourself. I've tried running away from my problems and guess what? It didn't work. Unless you learn to identify what your problems are and how they effect you and deal with them, then it doesn't matter how far the Jet can fly; you'll take your baggage with you.

I didn't grow up in the best environment, so I can relate to why you'd want to get out; but trust me, with that "don't care, just need out." mind set and no real plan... Yeah, I see than ending baaaaad. As others have mentioned, if you are desperate to get out but the military is not an option then I ask you this:

How bad is your life there REALLY, and how much better are you being than your parents?

I'm just being straight with you, so don't take this as being a snob. You really have to want something in this life to get it, and letting yourself think that it's someone else's fault that you can't obtain it is NO EXCUSE. Are they holding you gunpoint to keep you from getting a better job or a diploma? What's stopping you right now from bettering your life? I don't know what your current situation is, it may actuality be that the only practical option is getting out of there; if it’s actually that bad.

You have $2k in your pocket, and I'm assuming you have a computer and internet? Then go buy study guides for whatever the equivalent of a GED is and study your ass off using the tools you have; hell, the stuff on the internet may be more than enough to teach you what you need to know since you’ve already done a bit of college. Getting some sort of education cert will go a long way to making your life better; I have a GED and I'm working a pretty good job right now considering my lack of college degree because I always worked towards a better life.

Whatever you decide to do, make sure you are doing it for the right reasons; otherwise, you may find that you got what you wanted but it didn't make you any more happy.
