moving system drive to new system

I'm "upgrading" my system, but want to keep my original system drive from my old system. Basically the HDD will be the only piece from the other system, new mobo, cpu, mem and vid. Does anyone have any advice on how to make this transfer as painless as possible. I'm afraid of driver issues if i just plop in the HDD and try to boot it up. I will probably go through and uninstall most of the old drivers before making the switch, but any other advice?

Windows may want to be re-activated when you change that much hardware, so you may want to have your activation key ready. (I'm assuming this is XP)

You may want to download all the latest drivers for the new hardware before switching over. Particularly if the network card is new or it's integrated into the new motherboard, and also for the new video card.

If you're changing platform (say from s939 to intel) then you'll have to re-install windows. That has been my experience so far anyway. Every time i have upgraded my computer I re-install everything. Like Gary said you can try it out but make sure you have network drivers around so you can get online. Once you can do that you should be fine. edit: If windows boots at all.
