OK we moved Sunday into the new house.

First off I reserved a 24ft U-haul. I used U-haul's site to get it. Well the paperwork says to call if they don't notify us by 5pm the day before the move.

So on Saturday we call U-haul to find out that they don't have a truck for us. But they might get one in latter that night. JUST not in DeKalb. OK that sucks its about a 40 mile round trip. They said we can figure talk about the mileage in the morning. They said they will call by 9am to let us know where to pick up the truck.

OK SO Sunday morning at 9:30am (we have people coming at 10am to help us move) No call yet. So i call U-haul and ask where my truck is. The lady says they don't have one but they should have one by 1pm. I said that is not acceptable. I have a reservation for 9am and that i NEED a truck. So i ask to talk to a manager.

The manager gets on and starts to say there is one in naperville (about 40miles from here. so 80 miles round trip BUT it was to be dropped off at 1pm.) I again said that was not acceptable and was there anything else they can do?

While i was on the phone with them my wife was calling the local U-haul place. She found out they have 2 14ft trucks. So i asked if i can just get that? the lady finally agreed. BUT she wanted me to pay the $.99 a mile for EACH truck. After blowing up and telling her that it was there fault that they screwed up Why should i pay for there professionalism? she agreed to take it off but said if i continue to tell her that U-haul sucked she was just going to cancel the order. To witch i told her to go ahead. (we already talked to the local place and they agreed to give me the 2 trucks for the price and mileage i was getting on the 24ft one). she said fine have fun moving the stuff without a truck and hung up.

We drove to the local place and got both trucks. We are finally in the house (though not even close to unpacked). Got the Internet hooked up (but cant get the router to work for some reason) oh and got the satellite TV hooked up. 2 DVR units baby! wohoo! and a super dish (whatever).

anyway. Moving sucks!

Congrats on the move.

However, I will agree with you that U-Haul stinks. They've fouled up many times with trucks for me.

Yeah, I am hoping I get accepted for this new apartment I want, should find out tomorrow. I am dreading the move, and I really don't have a ton of stuff, and the new place is less then a mile away, and I am in a big city, so should have no trouble getting a uhaul somehwere close. Although I do agree they do suck sometimes. I use them cause they are convienient here, but I once tried a move with them from a smaller city, with only 1 Uhaul place, and they basically gave me the same thing as you, the original reserved truck was not there, but got 2 smaller ones for same price, although I got it out of them a little easier then what you seemed to have.

You got it, get the porn and DirectTV hooked up before anything else, a man must have priorities.

Your wife can do the rest of the unpacking while you surf. :D

Unpacking is complete BS, we moved 5 years ago and still have boxes we havent unpacked.

We plan to build a new house in the next year, we will move the current unopened boxes, then add a few from here that we will never unpack. Just buy more crap and repeat as needed until your whole life is in a series of boxes.

Funny thing about military folks, the Government always tells them IN TONS, how much crap they own.

I own little furniture and am in a moving stage. It is easy and very little work. I think I'm afraid to own too much because I'd feel like I have to carry it on my back everywhere I went.

HA!

I went to the local U-haul place to get my receipt (they were closing not to long after i picked up the truck and were closed until Tuesday night) well anyway the guy there was cool. He said since i had so much trouble he just charged me ONE truck ($19.99) claiming that it broke down and we had to jump start it.

heh so it was cheaper then had i just got the truck i ordered!
