Moving Router

Yes, I did google this first, but no satisfying answer. Charter installed the modem in our 2nd bedroom when I wasn't home. This is not an ideal location since I want to hardwire my HTPC, NAS, and TV to the router. I've been trying to look for places where I can run a Cat5e cable from the modem to the router in the living room. This triplex that I'm in is built weird. Everything is walled off so I have no access to the area under my floor. Yes, I tried to look through the wall, but I can that it goes to dead end. So, what are my option, or am I SOL? Thanks for your input.

cable modem should work off any jack at all. just move the modem to the room you want it.

That's the problem. There's only 1 live jack in the whole place 🙂

You could always try a powerline networking kit, preferably Gigabit or faster (eg, 2-port TP-LINK TL-PA7020 KIT or 3-port TP-Link TL-PA8030P KIT [review]). You can expect anywhere between 100 and 400mbps actual throughput with these adapters. I would avoid anything rated less (eg, AV500) as their maximum speed per port is 100mbps (50 to 80mbps actual).

Thank you all for your response. I decided to went with the ZyXel kit. Newegg happened to have $25 discount on it! It works wonderfully for my situation!!
