I will be building a new computer this weekend to replace the very old system (K6-2/400)I'm currently using. I'd like to transfer the Outlook Express identities (3) and address books from the current system to the new one. What files do I need to move from the old HDD to the new HDD to do this? Where are they located? Are there any tips and/or issues I should be aware of to make this move easier.

Thanks in advance for your help.

System / OS Information

Currently using W98 (Not SE). New OS will be WinME.
Outlook Express (I believe its 5 but not sure)

New System will be:
AMD XP 1700+
IWILL XP333 rev 2.1
VisionTek GTS-V (From NewEgg curtesy of Hot Deals Forum)
Maxtor 30GB/7200 (Again curtesy of Hot Deals Forum)
256MB DDR 2100 - Crucial (wish I'd bought more when cheap)
Intel Pro 100B NIC
Enermax Case & PS (300 Watts - hope it works)

Here you GO. This should do the trick for you. I use this program and it works great. I believe you have a 14 day look over period.

And, if you want to do it free the old fashioned way, just go to OE's Tools, then Options, and click on the Maintenance tab. Then go down and see what your setting are for your "Store Folder." Just copy that folder and you have all of your e-mail boxes and contents. OE allows you to put that folder anywhere. I use an external HDD (Firewire) for that purpose, so changing main drives does not lose my mail.

The address book is located in your C:\Program Files\Outlook Express folder as *.WAB. Copy that and you have your address book. I do that to sync it in my other computers.

As for Identities, they are in the Registry. Those three things would have to be entered manually.

So, you have choices. :)

Thanks guys, for the tips. I used Corky-g's "old fashion" approach / tips to locate and play around with the OE files, moving them between my main system (getting replaced) and my kids system. I think I have it figured out now.

One note to Corky-g. I found the *.wab files in C:\windows\application files\outlook express\, not as indicated below. Your directions however gave me the info I needed to search for and locate them.
