Moving number between carriers

Can I move a number from a Verizon phone to a new iPhone on ATT without deactivating the Verizon phone? I would want the Verizon phone to have a new number.

Talk to Verizon first. By default, porting the number will cancel your Verizon account. However, they should be able to immediately reactivate it for you and waive any ETF.

It's for my company - they use ATT for smartphones.
