Moving into the dorms early

Because of the new RCC job I got this semester, I had to move into the dorms a week early. I posted about the training and stuff here if you're interested ;) But in all, I haven't really done much and I don't see exactly why moving in a week early was necessary, because it wasn't.

Anyway, this really sucks. Nothing to do, and I gave up computer gaming almost completely. Living out of canned and microwaved food for a week, and almost nobody here. People are just finally starting to move in today and I've been here since Sunday night.

But hey, the bathrooms are hella clean... :)

I'm moving in Sunday, but my roommate and two other good friends are all moving in that day as well. Should be fun, three days of no classes and nonstop partying :)

I have to move out of my double room and into a single because I just got a computer resnet job working for the school. Free room and board so its not bad at all. I have to go to school all day tomorrow for training, should be a blast.

I loved being able to move in a week early. It was so great to have the whole dorm, just me and the RAs. Sometimes we would play manhunt/jailbreak throughout the entire building. I could blast music, carry beer around in the hallways, do whatever.

Don't you have other RCCs to associate with? Early move-in was the time that the entire team would pile into a computer lab (we had access to all computer labs on campus as part of our "perks") with a 30-block for all-night Starcraft or Unreal or Quake or Commandos. I wasn't big on gaming, but it was just a fun time. One year we spent the entire week playing spades, another time it was volleyball. We were a pretty tight group and always just hung out during that free week.

We only had RCC training during the summer move-in, but the training was quite mundane. Veteran RCCs didn't have to go to most of it. The only time I was bitter was my final year. I was paid $600/week at my summer internship, but I was only paid $300 for that early week (normal pay was $150/week). Instead of training, we spent the week bailing out other subdepartments for work they couldn't complete over the summer. When we grumbled to our supervisor about lugging around computers all week b/c the tech shop couldn't hack it even though it's not our job, she said "Well don't complain - you're getting paid."

I politely informed her that I pretty much LOST $300 by having to come back this week when I could have spent 1 more week at my "real" job.

Otherwise...live it up. It's awesome to have a whole building to yourself.

I wish my floor was like that. My RA is a really cool guy and he moved in last night. I talked to him for few minutes, but a guy who had his door open kinda shut it while we were talking. I don't think I was talking that loud. Assholes -- most on my floor are. There are a few cool guys though, like the RA.

Ya gotta do what we did last year...

Hooked up 2 of my buddy's p.a.'s to our existing badass surround sound system (the p.a.'s were 1000 watts each, 2 cabs of 2x15" woofers, horn midrange and 4 piezo tweeters), and blared saving private ryan as loud as possible with the window open to see how far around campus it could be heard... that was funny as hell... I swear we could still feel it rumble 4 floors down. Granted lugging the p.a.'s into the dorms sucked, but it was probly the most fun we ever had.

Anyway, give me a hell yes.. my first tech call and I helped a guy a few doors down, party animal, and he knows nobody.. more of a chick magnet than me so I'll just keep in touch.
