I'm moving down to San Antonio at the end of the month. I've been looking at a couple different ways to get my stuff down there cheap and easy. Uhaul is gonna cost me $1900 to rent the smallest truck and a trailer to tow my car with (civic). Haven't got a quote from PODs. Are there any other viable alternatives out there?

When I moved from PA to FL, I looked into truck rentals/PODs/etc. and the best deal I found was renting a UHaul truck and then towing my car on an "auto transport" - 4 wheeled dolly. Moved a 1BR apartment this when and it all just about fit (I packed every open space in my car full as well).

I shipped my stuff from Michigan to Texas via UPS.

I'm a poor college student though, I have hardly anything.

Uhaul sucks.
Check Penske or Budget.

Penske Truck FTW! Used it when moving from LA ( Thats Louisiana) to PA. Cheaper than renting a UHual. Plus, with Penske, you can get a little bit more of discount as a AAA member.

How much stuff? If it's just you sell everything except what you can fit in a car and drive. If you have a family then bite the bullet.

At that price, you may want to look into paying a moving company. I think I paid a little over $2k to move all of my stuff (single bedroom apartment) from San Antonio to VA. Since I didn't have a lot of stuff, Allied simply found a truck heading in the right direction and threw my stuff on board. Considering the other options (PODs, Uhaul) I think the price was well worth it.

I used ABF/UPACK when I moved 'cross country. If I remember correctly, it costed about a grand. Only thing to be careful about when you use those "you pack it, we ship it" companies is that you pack it tight and secure. Your stuff will bounce around and break if not secured well.

PENSKE

that's all I've got to say, and you should book it at soon as you can you can get some really great deals

the trucks are best too, I've had uhauls where the door wouldn't close all the way, no radio, and shitty seats.

I got a 22' Penske truck from OK to CA for like $1000 with the insurance too.

Might try calling them and seeing if they can give you any discounts or find different places to return it to, you can find big discounts by delivering it to a neighboring city sometimes.
