I just moved. I sold/gave away everything I could. Then bought back new stuff when I got here. All I moved were my clothes, books, DVDs and a few antique maps. Of course, I'm single... so when I got here All I needed to buy was a couch, bed a $60 kitchen set from K-Mart.

My brother used PODS. He liked them.

I moved from STL to RI via moving company and would NOT recommend the same. They damaged close to $1k worth of belongings (and we live rather modestly).

I moved up here with my current job and my company picked up expenses (~3 years ago). We're ready to move back.

When we move back to STL we are considering the PODS thing, selling most of our possessions and preparing for (another) fresh start.

GL and let us know how it goes

It completely depends on how much you are moving.

How many rooms and estimated weight are you looking at?

With an actual shipping company (North American, Mayflower, ect) you will most likely be looking at $5,000+.

If you go with Allied you are looking at the $3000-$4000 range and you might have to arrange your own load/unloading.

If you rent a Rider truck yourself you are looking at $1200 or so for a 26' truck + gas. Pay a couple day laborers on each end for another $250 for the load and $250 for the unload and do it for under $2000.

It was 2950 to move a 2-bedroom apartment worth of stuff from VA to NYC with two guys loading, unloading, and doing a significant amount of packing. This was through an Allied affiliate. So your estimate is a bit...high.

Never go to moving.com or anything like that.

If you want a good moving company head over to www.movingscam.com. THey have forums there, the main one has a sticky with local mover reviews. It's how we found out allied mover and we were very pleased.

i'm leaning towards pods right now. its around 3 grand, but i can pack everything myself and make sure nothing gets broken. Uhaul doesnt work b/c of timing issues, i cant drive it there myself.

Yes, i'm a doctor, and yes, i'm getting my MBA.

as for the cards, its been exciting while i've been here. hope they play better than opening day the rest of the year.
