Moving from E4300 to q6600, some OC questions

I have a E4300 running at 3.2ghz no problem since April.

I'm doing a lot more video encoding and the software supports multithreading. I was going to switch to a Q6600.

If I can run the 4300 at 3.2 should I be able to run the 6600 at near the same speed?

This is on a Gigabyte DS3 board with Corsair ram.

3.2GHz should be no problem with a small voltage bump. Make sure the DS3 has BIOS F7 or later as they added support for Kentsfield in F7.

Should work at 3.2GHz with a decent cooler. I don't think you'll see much difference unless the software is coded to take full advantage of four cores.

Pretty much every single MP4 encoder supports multiple processors.

A 2 hour video takes about 3.5 hours using a single core. I set it to 4 cores, 2 physical each of them with that Intel "hyperthreaded' cpu, down to about an hour and fifteen.

With a 4 core, or 8 virtual cores, I should be around 35-40 minutes.

I never noticed my E4300 getting hot before, even playing games. After 20 hours of encoding video the stock Intel cooler sounds like a hurricane but keeps running along.

10 minutes after the encoding stops its back down to normal volume levels.
