Moving from CRT to LCD.

Ok i am wanting to change over to an lcd monitor. Right now i have a 17" crt that takes up a huge ammount of my desk. I really don't know what to look for in terms of what i need. I am a hardcore gamer, however i play mostly World of warcraft. I do play shooters a lot when i am not playing wow however. I want something that looks good, and can display text really well too. I am currently running a ati x1800xt as well. My price range is no more than 300 bucks.

Any help would be great.

Thanks a lot

Any 19" LCD from various makers like Acer/Samsung would more than be enough for you, just make sure you get one with DVI.

ok i should have stated this a little more clearer. I want a widescreen monitor. The suggested gaming monitors in the sticky are not. (with the exception with the 20 inch NEC that is out of my price range) That is why i posted this

My 22" widescreen was $299 at Microcenter, and I'm happy with it. You might as well get the biggest LCD you can for the money, since it should last a while.

here are a few other 20" models:

I also own the 20" BenQ, and it is a decent monitor. These are all TN panels like the 22" ACER. The Samsung would probably be a good choice.

Another good 20" LCD is the Viewsonic VX2025WM. This one is priced a little higher, but uses an MVA panel, so has better viewing angles, and contrast.

To get anything significantly better, you need to spend quite a bit more money.

There are plenty of 19" widescreen LCDs at the $200 price range which are decent, but I would recommend stepping up to a larger LCD.

well I just want to save you from a possible mistake. Have you done research on crt's vs lcd's?

I was in the same situation a week ago that you're in right now; I liked my CRT, but prices on LCD monitors were pretty attractive. I looked at various 20.1", 21", including various Samsungs, Dells, and this BenQ.

I just bought the BenQ 20.1" LCD from Newegg for $213 shipped; I'm definitely happy with the price, size, and picture quality. I tried some UT 2004, Max Payne 2, F.E.A.R., all @ 1680x1050, and I'm definitely happy. My previous monitor was the Samsung 997DF (19" CRT) and I don't regret buying the LCD at all, and the extra desk space is a definite bonus.

If you can find the BenQ for $199 like I did, it's a definite steal.

Heh, of course the problem now is that I want to get another 7900 GT KO ($199 @ ZipZoomFly) to run SLI with. Damn this expensive habit of mine! 🙂
