Thinking of moving to the Tampa FL area in two months or so. Now living in Boston, MA. Since I live in the city, I don't have a car as its just not THAT important. Of course its mandatory in FL.

Anyway........ I have a one bedroom apt, that I will need to move a few things, like bed, computer, clothes, etc. Not really any furniture.

If you have moved across country, how did you do it without your own car? Looked on Avis, and its almost $3,000!!! to rent one-way a pathetic little 10 foot van.

Opinions/suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Check rates for UHaul and Penske..Penske >>>> UHaul, but they might be a bit more expensive.

I "move" (I say that because I have a primary home, but I travel to my client's location throughout the year and maintain a residence in their town as well) all the time, but it would be a pain without my car. I have a tiny two-seater, but it's enough for me to get my essentials to my destination.

I also ship several boxes to wherever I plan on going. If you don't have a residence there yet you can always just ship it to the hotel, to the apartment people, to a location like Mail Boxes Etc. etc. I generally ship two or three boxes, and this has removed any need for me to rent a UHaul. No way would I pay that much to move a few things...

No idea on cost, but ,If you go with UHAUL I recommend ordering the truck for a few extra days in advance. This way you can ensure it's the right size / model / in working condition before heading south. If it's a bad truck, you have a few days for them to get you another piece of crap to use.

/not a happy UHAUL Customer.
//Seen others in family burned too. Even after I warned them.

Don't go with Uhaul, it'll be two days driving time, keep what you need, sell the furniture and donate the rest.

Donate.....whats that....;-)

How do you ship a pc? Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

Thinking of selling a good deal of stuff, throwing some away, and maybe just ship the rest a la UPS, USPS, etc

By the way, you should look into Door to door and/or PODs

I know a guy moving to Cali from boston who said doortodoor was the best choice for him.
