Moving Files to XP

i just helped a friend buy a new comp, and she has to move her files off of her old hard drive on to the new one. What is the best way to do this? I tried just putting the old hard drive in the comp, but XP wouldnt recognize it. I brought the old hard drive home and was going to put it in mine (windows 98) and then just burn some of the files onto a cd, but i was worried about formating issues....anyone have some ideas?

Thanks!

Your idea of taking her files off her HD and burning them on CD will work fine. When you burn it onto CD it will be put in the universal CD format so any cd-rom drive can read it. She can then just copy the files off the CD with no probs. Although it does seem odd that her winXP machine won't recognize the old hard drive. Another option would be to network your two machines together and transfer the files.

did you check the jumpers on the HD, if you put it on the same channel as the OS drive then you need to change it from master to slave, or put it on the secondary ide channel.
