how many files and how large? Does the laptop have a CD burner? DVD burner? Ethernet port?

About 5G. No CDRW, so I guess the easiest should be to trasfer them through Ethernet cards. There should be some roundabout route of assigning both PCs certain IPs so they will recognize each other as a network, but is there something easier?

Many thanks,

Why don't you just network them and transfer them? Usually I just have them on the same network and use AIM and "Send File" or "Send Directory" over.

The easiest way would be to share a directory on the desktop then just copy and paste the files from the laptop to that share.

There are many threads in the OS & Networking forums about setting up file shares

Also, if you want to connect both systems directly using a cable (no hub, router, or switch), then you'll need a crossover cable. A standard CAT5 cable won't work.

Check out EZLAN for networking help if you need it.

I used a crossover ethernet cable - just plug both ends into computers, turn on file sharing and you'll be ready in @ 5 mins
