One word - GHOST. Utilize this utility to clone the contents of the smaller drive to the larger drive. Then, zap the contents of the smaller drive.

I went through this same exercise a few nights ago. A few tips for you. Ensure that you make the new, large drive 'active' via fdisk after you have defined the partitions. Once you have 'cloned' the small drive onto the larger drive, switch the jumpers around to make the new drive the 'master' and the smaller drive the 'slave'. Good luck!

You can use this utility, Image Cast 3, to clone your drives also. I found a link to a demo of the program. It performs all the same functions and it's free. :)

After you have formatted the disk and utilized Ghost to copy the contents of your smaller drive to your larger drive, perform the following:
1) Using FDISK, you have to make the primary partition on your larger drive "active".
2) Switch your drives around: Make the larger drive the master and the smaller drive the slave drive.
3) Start up your PC and ensure that it is operating properly on the new, larger hard drive.
4) Reformat the smaller drive to free up some more space.

That's it!! This process should take less than one hour total. Using Ghost took me about 1 hour and I was cloning 30 GB of data on three separate partions.
