Hi Everyone,

I searched here and on the intertubes trying a find a way to get all my contacts from my old iPhone into my new android phone. I was able to sync mac address book with my google contacts. I am also able to see them in my phone when I go to the android contacts app but for some reason I don't see the phone numbers for the contacts and they appear to only be in a group called "Ungrouped contacts" and they include almost everyone who has ever sent me email to my gmail account instead of the 80 or so people who were in my mac address book.

I'm sure I'm missing something obvious but I was hoping someone who may have done the same thing could save me a bit of time with the process.

Thanks!

there's usually an option in the android contacts app to "only display contacts with phone numbers"

my problem is sort of the reverse. i see the contacts in the android app but they don't have the phone numbers for some reason, only the email addresses.

hmm, that's odd. when you view contacts online (log in to gmail, click contacts on the left), do you see numbers there?

The problem isn't that it hasn't sync'd over. It's that you are not showing the proper view to display it. Can you tell us what phone you are running and what version of Android?

Android contacts are the same as the contacts for your gmail account. It is much easier to manipulate them via the gmail website by importing/exporting a csv file, since it's a lot easier to mass update contacts in an excel spreadsheet than one at a time on a tiny phone screen.

Export the contacts from OSX into a spreadsheet. This should be possible but I have zero experience.
Export your existing gmail contacts into a spreadsheet to see the format needed (column order for name, phone#, address, etc.).
Adjust your OSX contacts spreadsheet to match the columns from gmail.
Import the OSX contacts into gmail.

doesn't google have a sync application for iphone? you should be able to sync your contacts to google contacts via that. then they should automatically appear on your new android.

hmm i think the error might have occurred between the keyboard and the chair. after even more googling it looks like i may have omitted the all-important step: click "Sync Now" in your mac's menu bar.

i'll confirm how much of an idiot i am tonight ;)

Isn't funny how often this kind of thing happens?

This is why IT people ask seemingly stupid questions like, "Is the monitor plugged into a functioning power source?".

oh boy, well there's good news and there's bad news.

the good news is that i was able to get my address book contacts on my android phone.

the bad news is i'm twice the idiot i thought i was. to wit:

1. i somehow overlooked the "click Sync Now" step in the instructions
2. i forgot to sync my google contacts on my phone (i had turned off auto-sync during setup)

i humbly submit myself for derision and punishment. :(

LOL. That's awesome.

1. Did not set up sync;
2. Did not hit sync button;
3. Wonders why it won't sync.

We have all been there.
